The mountains were created with Magnetism and the Applique function using a fractal noise image. Another fractal noise image was used as an altitude map to make the surface look realistic. The Dirt texture was also used. To make the water I used filter and reflection maps on a plane object. The reason I used maps instead of just setting the attributes was that I then could make the transition between water and land more believable. For the ripples I used the Rain texture. To make the mountains in the background look distant I placed a plane object with the fog length set in front of them. The cloudy sky is a backdrop image that was made in a paint program by horizontally stretching and coloring a fractal noise image. Another image was used as color map on plane object that was placed so it would be reflected in the water.
